Description

The Seattle City Attorney’s Office is looking for an experienced paralegal to join its Collections team in the Civil Enforcement Section (CE). This position supports a team that collects debts owed to the City via litigation in King County Superior Court and manages bankruptcy, receivership and probate notices received by City departments. This position also works with the Civil Enforcement section to support the support staff needs.

Requirements

This position requires at least one of the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and at least three years of experience performing paralegal or like duties in a collections litigation setting; OR
  • A degree or certification from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited paralegal training program and at least three years of experience performing paralegal or like duties in a collections litigation setting; OR
  • A combination of education/training/experience providing an equivalent background.

The successful candidate will have the demonstrated abilities to perform the above-described job responsibilities. This includes but is not limited to all or a combination of the following:

  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in basic math skills and ability to accurately track judgment/settlement amounts.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • An ability to organize and manage a large volume of cases simultaneously with an attention to detail.
  • Experience with software for litigation support, calendaring, and email-archiving.
  • Experience with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience with litigation holds, discovery, court calendaring practices, court e-filing programs, and court rules.
  • An ability to organize and place structure around large amounts of documents utilizing electronic litigation data management systems (or ability to learn) such as Nuix Discover (formerly Ringtail).
  • A desire and ability to learn new databases, procedure, and City practices.
  • An ability to work independently but also to collaborate with team members.
  • Familiarity with real property documents and recordings and PACER.
