Description
The position works in the claims department of a public entity risk pool and provides claims handling, management, oversight, direction, support, and administration. Work is performed following established office procedures and general directions. The focus is on auto physical damage, auto liability, general liability, property, Med-Pay, and underinsured motorist claims and subrogation. Some travel is required.
The first six to twelve months of employment represents an introductory (probationary) period to provide the opportunity for training and to evaluate performance for job suitability. Following the completion of the introductory period, employees are required to complete the Insurance Institute of America course AINS 101: Increasing Your Insurance IQ (WSTIP pays for the course).
WSTIP strives to be creative and flexible in alternative work design, including offering hybrid work options in the form of telecommute and telework program. In a telecommuting arrangement, an employee is assigned workspace in the WSTIP office and, with approval, works one or more days each work week from a home office. In a telework arrangement, an employee utilizes a home office for the majority of their work. Employees that have telework arrangements will need to come to the office from time to time, but an employee with a telework arrangement will have no designated workspace at the WSTIP office.
Generally, our workdays are 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. Initially, we expect the employee hired to receive in-person training and work from the WSTIP Office in Olympia, WA Monday – Thursday via a telecommute arrangement as requested for the purpose of learning the role and developing team cohesion. After a period of time, the employee could be offered a telework arrangement as long as the employee is in good standing and able to work from their residence within Washington State. The position also requires occasional overnight travel to meetings with WSTIP Members, WSTIP Staff or Board meetings and/or for professional development.
Requirements
Four years of work experience in a professional and/or academic environment. High school diploma or GED. Possession of Washington State driver’s license. Ability to learn and utilize WSTIP’s Risk Management Information System (RMIS, currently Origami Risk). Demonstrated ability to coordinate daily activities to meet schedules/deadlines and complete assigned tasks. Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Desired: Two years of experience in managing auto liability claims, and/or property insurance claims adjusting, and subrogation techniques and procedures. Ability to seek and become a notary public in Washington state.
Preferred: Adjusting or Paralegal certification or Risk Management accreditation.
