Description

Lane Powell has 140 years of experience serving as a strategic business advisor and legal counsel to premier public and private companies. A preeminent litigation and corporate firm, Lane Powell represents clients in the Northwest and nationally in dispute resolution ranging from arbitration to complex litigation and class actions. Synonymous with excellence and innovation, Lane Powell’s attorneys bring an entrepreneurial spirit to their work that is reflected in a client roster that includes some of the most venerable – and dynamic – companies and individuals in business today.

Lane Powell’s Seattle or Portland office seeks an attorney with three to five years’ experience handling both traditional labor relations matters and employment matters, including employment litigation.

Candidates should be licensed to practice in Washington or Oregon. We offer a competitive compensation structure and a uniquely collegial environment where you will be part of a cooperative, collaborative, and supportive team. For this reason, the attorney would need to work from the Seattle or Portland Lane Powell office, although hybrid work may be considered.

Relying on our broad and diverse experience, our attorneys tailor advice and representation to our clients in multiple industries, including technology, retail, manufacturing, education, financial services, hospitality, environmental, transportation, and professional and engineering services. Our attorneys keep current on developing state and local laws and regulations. We seek candidates who have a willingness to take ownership for projects and cases, who are team oriented, collaborative, and enjoy public speaking.

Job Responsibilities:

Successful candidates will be responsible for assisting in all aspects of traditional labor relations matters, including negotiating collective bargaining agreements, handling arbitrations, unfair labor practice complaints, union jurisdictional disputes, election-related proceedings, and other proceedings in front of government and regulatory agencies like the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) or state agencies like Washington’s Public Employment Relations Commission (PERC) or the Oregon Employee Relations Board (ERB).

The position will also be responsible for handling employment matters, including litigation and administrative charge work, including preparing position statements, evaluating claims, handling mediation, taking depositions, engaging in motion practice, and preparing for and taking cases to arbitration and trial. The position may also be responsible for working with senior attorneys to counsel HR professionals and business executives on compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and providing strategic thinking in avoiding and resolving employment disputes.

The title of the position and duties will depend on experience, qualifications, and book of business.

Office Location: Seattle or Portland

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Active Washington or Oregon State Bar membership
  • 3-5 years of experience handling employment litigation, traditional labor matters, and/or advising employers regarding compliance with labor and employment laws

  • Strongly preferred: 3-5 years of experience handling employment litigation and/or management-side labor and employment counseling experience

We are proud to have received the Diversity Lab's Mansfield Rule 4.0 and 5.0 Certification Plus, which recognizes our efforts to increase the representation of diverse lawyers in leadership positions through various initiatives, including considering a diverse pool of candidates for attorney positions. To meet the requirements of the program, we voluntarily gather data on race/ethnicity, veteran status, and LGBTQ+ status for Mansfield Rule reporting purposes. However, providing this information is entirely voluntary and will not affect your candidacy. The Mansfield Rule requires that at least 30% of attorneys considered for leadership roles, promotions, client pitches, and senior lateral positions are from underrepresented groups, including attorneys of color, LGBTQ+ lawyers, women lawyers, and lawyers with disabilities. The "Mansfield Plus" certification demonstrates that we also ensured that 30% of the lawyers staffed on matters resulting from formal pitch meetings were from historically underrepresented groups, in addition to meeting the requirement that these groups make up 30% of firm leadership roles.
